Storytime, Snacks and Meaningful Moments with Auntie Angeline

What’s the perfect pair, in my opinion? A children’s book in hand… and someone to enjoy it with.

On a sunny afternoon, we gathered for a quiet little family picnic in the park to share something close to my heart—a sneak peek read-aloud of my upcoming Auntie Angeline children’s book, Finley the Fish, launching December 1st.

Blankets were spread, little feet kicked in the grass, and curious ears leaned in as Finley’s story came to life. Moments like this remind me why reading aloud to children is so powerful—storytime creates connection, supports emotional growth, and encourages meaningful conversations between parents and kids.

For this little picnic, Nathan’s by Pop Pop Foods and Jarritos shared the snacks and sips with us, adding to the cozy, cared-for feeling of the afternoon. Warm pigs in a blanket and bright, bubbly Jarritos felt like the perfect companions for a relaxed outdoor family activity—simple comforts meant to be enjoyed together.

Watching the puff pastry rise earlier that day made me smile; it reminded me so much of Finley himself—a lovable puffer fish character who learns how to navigate big feelings and stay calm when life feels overwhelming. Finley the Fish is a social-emotional learning (SEL) children’s book, designed to help kids explore emotions like anxiety, fear, and confidence in a gentle, age-appropriate way.

Between pages and bites, there was laughter, conversation, and that easy joy that comes from reading together as a family. No rush. No agenda. Just presence.

Moments like this are exactly what I hope Finley the Fish inspires—connection, comfort, and reassurance for children learning to manage big emotions. And if you happen to spot these same picnic favorites during your own storytime adventures, they’re available while supplies last.

Here’s to sunshine, storytime, and the simple pairings that turn everyday moments into lasting memories!
